Over the last few years we have developed training courses in wood turning, largely because we got a grant (thank you to our local Co-op) that bought us a state of the art lathe (thank you Simon Hope). These have proved very popular and we have a growing demand for more, not just turning, but to share other skills that our members have and are eager to pass on.
What we currently offer:

- Turning for beginners – spindle work – the 14th course is planned to run January/February 2025. The next one is likely to start in March and has open places.
- Intermediate turning – bowls and boxes – we’ve run this course 6 times. We have not got a start date for the next one, but we have two open spaces on it.
- More advanced turning: assembled pieces, off centre work and decorating techniques – We did the prototype of this course in 2024 and it is is now available to book.
- Pen turning – actually mainly about pens but really it covers any form of assembled turning using kits (normally brass ones).

Coming soon to a Shed near you:
Basic joinery
Leaded glass.
Pyrography.
Wood carving
The basic plan for each of these will follow the same format as our turning courses, short sessions spread over several weeks led by an experienced and keen amateur (none of us are professionals in these fields). We aim to keep costs low as we are not about making a profit, just keen to share and encourage people to try something and develop new skills. But like everyone, we do need to pay the bills to keep the lights on.
