We offer a variety of turning courses to suit your previous experience – none, some or lots. If you’ve got lots, maybe you can come and teach us. If you’ve got none, then come and try it out and have some fun in the process.
BEGINNERS START HERE – BASIC SPINDLES
- Four planned sessions with an optional fifth for a personal choice project.
- Cost is £30 per session including tools and materials (except timber and fittings for a personal project).
- Maximum of 4 people per course.
- Each session typically lasts about 3 hours.
- Plan is one session per week – but negotiable
- Day and time are negotiable to suit to participants.
Course Schedule:
- Lathe safety. Turn some lumps and bumps.
- Make a garden dibber (square to round, putting lumps and bumps into practice)
- Make a mushroom (shape, design and holding methods)
- Make a candlestick (design – beads, coves and fillets)
- Personal project (your choice)
What gets made in week 3
These are the mushrooms made on the third session of the course we ran in August 2023 (the fifth one that we’d done). The sharp eyed among you will notice there are five mushrooms instead of our normal 4 participants. That’s because one of the ladies on the course asked if her husband could come play too.
We’re flexible. If we need to draft in extra help to ensure safe supervision we’re only too pleased to.
